Waste Management
To ensure that waste generated at our domestic and overseas operations and construction sites is disposed of in compliance with domestic regulations and our internal rules, we have established type-specific waste management guidelines for storage, transport, and disposal. The Ministry of Environment's waste management system “All-Baro” also ensures well-organized waste management. Efforts to minimize the amount of waste generated include design and materials procurement optimization, work improvement, management efficiency, and waste reduction initiatives. Recently, our state-of-the-art system has introduced environmentally friendly smart packaging to prevent over-packaging and paper-based packing tapes to reduce the use of plastics and other resources. We will continue to enhance our efficient resource management system to prevent resource depletion, minimize environmental pollution, and establish a virtuous cycle of resource cycling.
Robust Waste Management Infrastructure
CJ Logistics launched a project to digitalize the entire waste management process to efficiently reduce waste. Operating numerous logistics centers nationwide, we handle various types of mixed waste, which involves multiple players in discharging, collecting, transporting, and disposing of it, making it challenging to accurately estimate the amount of waste generated. In February 2023, we signed a business agreement with SK ecoplant to establish a virtuous cycle for waste resource cycling. Through this partnership, we introduced the waste management solution WAYBLE, which allows us to build an infrastructure for identifying waste discharges in real-time. Additionally, we analyzed waste generation patterns to prevent the unnecessary use of new resources. Moving forward, we will continue to digitalize waste information and explore new recycling opportunities to minimize waste and achieve zero waste.
Green Packaging
We are committed to developing packaging technologies and introducing them into field practices to address the surge of packaging waste driven by the rapid growth of e-commerce. We have replaced conventional ice packs and packing tapes with paper-based materials and are working toward preventing over-packaging through innovative packaging technology. Our green smart packaging solutions enable us to select the appropriate box size for each product, accurately measure empty space, and use only the necessary amount of buffer materials.
In 2023, we developed Korea's first tape-type invoice to replace plastic film-based (OPP) tapes and a one-touch box that can be shipped without attaching OPP tapes. Additionally, we improved the quality of paper to make it less susceptible to environmental conditions such as rain and introduced bottom-pad technology to prevent products from moving and being damaged inside the box. In recognition of these technological advancements, we won the 2024 World Star Packaging Award. We will continue to develop and apply novel packaging technologies and solutions to avoid resource waste and minimize waste generation.
