Kim Wins in the Tour as a Special Temporary Member, and Im Clinches the Runner-up Trophy

The global sports sponsorship of CJ Logistics for promising young players based on their enormous potential and infinite possibilities is bearing fruit as pro golfers from CJ Logistics ranked first and second in the PGA Tour.

CJ Logistics announced today (Aug 8, 2022 KST) that their pro golfer Joo-hyung Kim scored a victory at PGA Tour’s Wyndham Championship held at Sedgefield Country Club, Greensboro, North Carolina, US. Kim recorded 20-under 260 overall and became the 9th PGA Tour champion and the youngest winner from Korea.

Kim delivered a bold performance even at the young age of 20. He made a quadruple bogey, or double par, on his opening hole at the par-4 first hole. It took him four tries to get his ball in the hole but he then followed up with seven birdies and finished with a 3-under 67. In the second and the third rounds, he carded 64 and 68 to take the lead, and hit 61 shots in the final round to record a resounding victory in the end by five strokes.

The great pride and resolve Joo-hyung Kim showed even when playing among the world’s best players gave hope and courage to not only golf fans in Korea and abroad, but also the general public. The story of Kim as he practiced putting drills by shedding the smartphone light on the hole cup at the driving range where there wasn’t a lighting system moved the hearts of Korean people, sending a message that “you can achieve anything as long as you have fierce determination.”

Another pro golfer from CJ Logistics, Sung-jae Im, took the runner-up position recording 15-under 265 total. It is rare for players sponsored by a single company to become the winner and the runner-up.

Continued Sponsorship for Young Athletes Seeking to Become the Next World Class Players Blossoms, Reminiscent of CJ Logistics’ Pioneering Spirit in Exploring the Future of Logistics

The incredible feat accomplished by two players in the Wyndham Championship is casting light on marketing campaigns in global sports by CJ Logistics. Brand recognition of CJ was maximized with the CJ’s CI on the players’ cap and CJ Logistics’ global BI marked on a sleave and the right collar of the players’ shirts being exposed continuously to TV viewers around the world. Joo-hyung Kim making history with PGA Tour as a rookie with his indomitable will and can-do spirit after joining the championship as a special member evokes CJ Logistics’ footsteps as the company continues to explore the future of logistics with a similar pioneering spirit.

Kim, “I Was Able to Be Fully Immersed in My Practice Thanks to the Sponsor Who Believed in My Potential.”

CJ Logistics has sponsored Joo-hyung Kim since 2020 when Kim was 18 years old seeing his hidden potential rather than any immediate results, and as a result, Kim was able to snatch the PGA Tour trophy. CJ Logistics has not only sponsored Joo-hyung Kim, but also Sung-jae Im, Si-woo Kim, Byung-hoon Ahn, and Kyung-hoon Lee, all of whom are training to be the world’s best golfers right from an early stage. CJ Logistics’ sports marketing campaign is also competing against DHL, a global logistics company, in F1 Grand Prix, and FedEx in PGA Tours.

CJ Logistics CEO Sin-ho Kang said in congratulatory remarks that, “I applaud Kim for his steadfast performance with great concentration despite the tremendous amount of tension and pressure he must have felt throughout the tour. I’d like to express deep appreciation to Kim for his endeavor in facing challenges posed not just in Asia but also in the global arena.”

Joo-hyung Kim replied that, “I was able to be fully immersed in my practice in a secure environment thanks to CJ Logistics, who believed in my potential. Going forward, I will deliver great performances in the upcoming games and express my consolation and support to the Korean people who are feeling drained by COVID-19 fatigue and take the initiative in demonstrating Korea’s national status in the world.”

A CJ Logistics representative said, “Players we are sponsoring became the winner and the runner-up as a result of believing in their hidden potential. We will continue to discover infinite possibilities and sponsor them so that they can boast of their best performance in global championships.”

CJ Logistics has entered many parts of the world including China, Southeast Asia, and the Latin America, while it is expanding business in the US logistics market in full scale through CJ Logistics America, the local CJ Logistics corporation. The company expects the aggressive market entry combined with its operational know-how and cutting-edge logistics technologies will not only change the logistics paradigm but also boost CJ Logistics’ standing so that it can be on par with global players in the US, the heart of the world’s logistics industry.
